Having loved ones present is a meaningful part of the Catholic wedding tradition and a special way to bear witness to one’s faith, no matter if at home or abroad. Indeed, the ceremony allows your marriage to be witnessed and celebrated by your wider community. Therefore, we would always encourage couples to invite at least some family members, friends and other guests where possible.
If money is an issue, we can help you cut costs in other areas to ensure you have the quantity of people that are able to come and that you would most like.
However, if the wedding you have in mind is still a small one then, no fear. A Catholic marriage can technically take place with only a few people present, or even just you, the priest and your two witnesses.
From the Church’s perspective, such a ceremony would not be considered an “elopement” in the secular sense, but rather a small destination wedding. It is fully valid provided that all applicable requirements of Catholic canon law are followed.
For couples who prefer intimacy and a more discreet ceremony, this may therefore be an option. Just get in touch and we can work together towards your special day.
